“G.E.S’s R.H. Sapat College of engineering, Nashik Won First Prize in Smart India Hackathon 2017”

Achievements

The final year Students of Computer Engineering from Gokhale Education Society’s R. H. Sapat College of Engineering, Management studies and Research has won first prize of worth Rs. 1 Lac in the grand finale in ‘Smart India Hackathon 2017’ organized by AICTE in association with MHRD, New Delhi which was concluded at BVB college KLE university Hubbli, Karnataka on 2nd April 2017.

The HACKATHON 2017 focused on the problems of social importance identified by 29 ministries and departments of the government. They identified 598 problems, which were responded by 7,531 teams consisting of approximately 42,000 students. 1,266 teams of 10,000 participants were shortlisted for the finale. The code development runs for stretch 36 hours from 1st April 8 a.m. to 2nd April 8.00 p.m.

The team consisting of Prabhanjan V. Padhey (Team Leader), Kaustubh A. Joshi, Geetanjali B. Deore, Ankita D. Aher, Yogita H. Kasar, Shubham B. Bhokare with two mentors Prof. Swapnil V. Ghorpade, and Prof. Gaurav K. Bhamare. The team has got valuable guidance by Prof. N.V. Alone as SPOC and Prof. Gayatri A. Dhamne as Coordinator. The team worked on Problem statement ” Geographical location and identification of medicinal plants” given under the Ministry of Department of Ayush.

Our Management Prof. P.M. Deshpande , Project Director and Mr. Shailesh Gosavi, Executive Director remains always the source of inspiration for the whole team. Principal Dr. P.C Kulkarni and Head of the Department Dr. D. V. Patil gave their immense support for this event.

"Hadoop In Action " workshop was conducted on 27th Dec 2014 by Prygma Information Systems, Ahmednagar For ME Computer Engineering Students.

A workshop covered Hadoop multinode configuration and Implement of Digital Library Infrastructure using Hadoop and distributed database storage. To develop front end GUI and algorithm for searching the multimedia resource files, presentations in the selected domain, author, book title, ISBN and Use of different search exploration techniques.

One day workshop on Unix  Shell Script by Mr. Deepak R. Kadam Sr. System Engineer, IBM Pvt.Ltd on 8th March 2014. The workshop was conducted for ME Computer Engineering Students. The contents covered under this workshop are   Shell Environment and variable, Control Construct ,  Advance Command , Edit – vi and sed , Text File processing – awk , Archiving Utilities , Sub-scripts and functions, Arrays, Find,  grep, Process Controls, Memory Allocation and Inter process Communication.

One Day Seminar on “Digital Forensics & IT Security”

Computer Engineering Department held a seminar focused on the intersection of Digital Forensics & IT Security. The  seminar was conducted on 28th July 2014. About 200 students attended seminar from various engineering colleges in Nashik. Inaugration was done at the hands of  Principal, Dr.P.C.Kulkarni. Head of the Computer engineering department Prof.N.V.Alone, Prof. Mrs. Archana Vaidya-Student Branch Coordinator ,Mr.Vinay Hinge from VH Consulting ,Mumbai(CRISC Certified)- a Strategic Consulting Firm at Mumbai ,Mr.Tanmay Dikshit International Professional Level 25+ Certification, completed Information Security and Cyber Crime Expert from CPAG, nashik and Mr.Paresh Chitnis forensic document examiner from CPAG nashik were guests for the workshop. The Seminar was sponsored by CSI Branch, Nashik

Mr.Vinay Hinge, in the first session stated importance of security and career opportunities as well as informed about various certification courses available in security domain.

Mr. Paresh Chitnis explored various branches of Digital Forensics and Tools used for investigation.He gave information about laws and cases related to Information Security and Digital Forensics.

Mr. Tanmay Dikshit demonstrated various cyber crime detection tools in brief.He gave an overview of Digital Forensics.

One Day Seminar on Entrepreneurship Development Program

As a part of “ Industry Institute Interaction”, Computer Engineering Department organized one day seminar on “Entrepreneurship Development” for Student  on 29th July 2015. The eminent expert for the seminar were :-

The seminar was attended by second year, Third year and final year students.  The seminar was arranged by Mrs. Rucha Samant of Computer department under the support and guidance of  HOD of computer department, Mr. Nilesh V.  Alone and Principal Dr. P. C. Kulkarni .

Departmental Achievements

  • Hadoop Cluster :- Department has created Hadoop Cluster. Cluster has 1 master node and 19 slave nodes, each node is having 8 GB RAM, Intel i5 processor and 500 GB HDD. Cluster is configured with about 7TB hadoop distributed file system.
  • MPI+CUDA Cluster :- Department has created a MPI+CUDA Cluster. Cluster has 20 machines, each machine is accompanied by NVIDIA GT 610 of 2 GB RAM and 48 CUDA cores. MPI programs are capable to utilize CPU and GPU computing power. Remote access of MPI+CUDA and Hadoop Clusters are made available to students using SSH for study assignments and project on request basis.
  • CUDA Teaching Centre :- Department of Computer Engineering is awarded with “CUDA Teaching Centre” from NVIDIA. Under the program, It received :-
    • 3 GForce GT680 Graphics Card having 2GB DDR5 Memory, 1569 CUDA Cores
    • 1 Quadro 2000 Graphics Card having 2GB DDR5 Memory, 192 CUDA Cores

Staff Achievements

  • Professor Mr. S. V. Gumaste has been awarded with his Doctorate degree on 20th Feb 2016 by Amravati University.
  • Asst. Prof. Mr. P. K. Kanhegoankar has been deputed for PhD at VNIT, Nagpur.
  • Asst. Prof. Mrs. G. A. Dhamne’s paper has been selected for Springer AISC series publication.

Students Achievement

  • Mr. Pranav Lawate from final year computer engineering has successfully completed his Red Hat CCNA Certification.

In House Development

  • NotyBox :- Department staff has developed android mobile application “NotyBox” for teacher to student communication using which teachers can send urgent notices, reminders, notes etc.
  • Student Feedback System :- Department staff has developed web based application to collect Student’s Feedback. It is developed using PHP, MySQL and Parse BaaS Cloud Technology.
  • Student Information System :- Department of Computer Engineering has developed Student Information System. This web based software collects student’s details at the time of student admission. This software is useful to maintain centralize database of all admitted student. All the departments in the college can access this data as per their need. Software having modules like export data in excel file, search student details by name, print library form, display the department wise student list etc.
  • Library Management System :- A software for Library Management is developed and commissioned by students of Computer Department. It is implemented in PHP and MySQL under the guidance of department faculties. The Software is being monitored by the dedicated staff members and phased up-gradation is carried out based on feedback from stakeholders. 
                  This tool facilitates to search books in library by Title, Author name or Publication. Students can also see live availability status of books online. The librarian is authorized to update book stocks by maintaining book issue record. This web-based application has proven to be very efficient and helpful for students and faculties.
